New pilot program connects Sound Transit's 2 Line with hotels, shopping, dining and attractions, making Bellevue easier to explore without a car

Visit Bellevue announced the launch of the Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle powered by Amazon, a free electric shuttle pilot program, in partnership with Circuit, the City of Bellevue and Sound Transit. The new service begins August 3, 2026 to connect the “first-mile/last-mile”, helping riders arriving on Sound Transit’s 2 Line continue their journey to hotels, restaurants, shopping, parks, attractions and essential services throughout downtown Bellevue.

“Bellevue has been intentionally building toward a sustainable future where travelers can arrive easily, move intuitively, and experience more without relying on a car,” said Brad Jones, Executive Director of Visit Bellevue. “The Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle closes the last mile between regional transit and the heart of our destination, making it effortless to go from train to hotel, from meeting to meal, from shopping to parks – all seamlessly connected in a modern travel experience.”

What is the Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle?

The Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle pilot program is funded by Amazon and Visit Bellevue, with support from Circuit, the City of Bellevue and Sound Transit, through December 2026 as a pilot program to serve as an extension of the BellHop program.

The Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle features two Volkswagen ID. BUZZ vehicles, providing complimentary transportation from Bellevue Downtown Light Rail Station to destinations within the existing BellHop service area. Vehicles will be staged at the station during operating hours to provide an easy and welcoming connection for arriving riders.

“We see tremendous value in programs that improve access to public transit, support sustainable mobility, and connect people with local businesses and destinations," said Keri Pravitz, Manager of Community Engagement for Amazon in Bellevue. "Public-private partnerships like this allow us to explore innovative ideas and respond directly to community needs."

How Does the Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle Work?

Passengers can board the Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle at the designated Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle pickup area outside Bellevue Downtown Station and request a drop-off location within the service area. Drivers will confirm the destination before departing, and no reservations or mobile app are required.

Bellevue’s Growing Car-Free Transportation Network

The shuttle arrives just months after the opening of Sound Transit's 2 Line Crosslake Connection, which introduced the world's first light rail operating across a floating bridge. Together with Bellevue's BellHop service, airport and cruise transportationRide Bellevue bike program and expanding pedestrian-friendly downtown, the new shuttle strengthens Bellevue's position as one of the Pacific Northwest's most accessible destinations for travelers arriving without a personal vehicle.
